This is the story of what we do together.

Photoset reblogged from Midnite Barbeque with 6 notes

Post from the website I made dedicated to late night cooking…. midnitebarbeque:

This isn’t really about grilling, but condiments go with grilling. Tasty ones. I’m making some of my own…

Mustard

I read a post on Lifehacker about mustard-making and that link followed me to here. I tried to half the recipe but then I read the recipe wrong and added too much salt. Then I “unhalved” the recipe and it still tasted a little salty so I added the rest of the ground mustard… which ended up being about a cup of dry mustard. Also half of the whole seeds were ground so most of them were chopped and the other half of the seed was only slightly ground.

In the end, it’s a bit on the super spicy side… and I’m going to taste it again tomorrow.

Recipe

  • 6 tablespoons mustard seeds
  • 1/2 cup mustard powder (this ended up being like 3/4 cup)
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons salt (this ended up being… two tablespoon… so yea)
  • several dashes of turmeric

Directions

Put the dry stuff in a bowl and add the wet stuff. Stir. Refrigerate overnight. Taste.

Notes

I’m hoping to make v2 with garlic (and less salt). I found this link about a mustard museum…. http://www.mustardmuseum.com/ which indicates that I missed out on National Mustard Day…

Expect to see this rubbed on some meat in the near future
